June-July 2021
Another bad case of gingivitis. This time it was Srećko, our 6 year old male, rescued back in 2017. He traveled to Rijeka twice, and finally had his dental surgery on 13rd July at RiVet clinic. His ALL teeth had to be removed. Dear friends helped with transport and staying in the city of Rijeka. Srećko is recovering very fast, his great appetite is back :) |

Help Stefano's cats survive!
Stefano is our fellow citizen with golden heart who has many cats in his garden. During last two years we've fixed 15 cats there. Unfortunately, Stefano is in Rijeka hospital since 4th March in very serious condition. His cats are left alone and now all food is gone. If you want to donate food please contact us. Thank you! |
March 2021
March 16th, sweet Žuži had her dental surgery at RiVet clinic in Rijeka.
17 of her teeth have been pulled out, she still has her canine teeth and three incisors. Žuži stays in Rijeka, recovering in the house of one dear volunteer. During February and March, over 100 feral cats were spayed/neutered, many thanks to Cres town inspector and to Losinj volunteers. |
February 2021
19th February
We took one of our street cats to the vet clinic in Rijeka. It's the smallest female who is living near the Plodine supermarket in Cres. She is about 2,5 years old, spayed 2 years ago, only 2 kg weight. She was in pain when eating. The vet at RiVet clinic examined her and found she has gingivitis and mouth inflammation so she needs a dental surgery. She received Convenia antibiotic and her surgery is scheduled in two weks. She'll stay in the recovery box until the surgery. She was very calm and behaved perfectly in catamaran and in the vet clinic. She loves human touch, obviously she wasn't born on the street. Good luck little girl! |
As always, February is the hardest month for island cats, with freezing Bora wind, very cold nights and temperatures below zero. It's time for making sure all cats are healthy and have enough food, even cats in distant feeding spots. During the winter when there are no visitors on island, cats need about 200 kg of food monthly. Thanks to dear friends from Croatia and abroad, we received enough food donation for all cats to be fed daily during this period. Many thanks to all helpers and supporters and special thanks to the Förderverein Tierschutzprojekt Kroatien eV for help with food and vet expenses. Any help with cat food is much appreciated. If you want to help our cats please contact us via Contact page. Thank you! |

January - 71 cats sterilized!! This January was very busy, in only few days we sterilized 71 feral cats. Thanks to dear friends who supported us financially, and to volunteers from Rijeka and from Cres island who helped with trapping and transporting, and above all thanks to the great vet team - we managed to spay/neuter more cats than during the whole last year in Cres. Total of 75 cats were trapped, a few have been already sterilized but not eartipped so that was done now. All cats received the antiparasitic treatment. Once again, thank you dear friends for caring of island cats. Sterilization is the only humane way to stop overpopulation and it gives much longer and better life to island street cats. |
December 2020
4th December, spay day Ten island cats were sterilized. Five cats from the town of Cres and five from the village of Dragozetici. All cats were fixed in Losinj vet clinic. Food donations and feeding areas We feed very large number of cats in different locations. Almost all cats are already spayed/neutered. Street cats need lots of food to endure cold winter days with freezing bora wind, they need about 200 kg of food monthly. Every food donation is much appreciated! |
November 2020
Another published article about my work and the cats of Cres island, by Croatian newspaper Jutarnji list.
I've picked up sweet little ''Lady'' at the feeding area at the beginning of November. She was too thin, had diarrhea and she was full of worms. After antiparasitic treatments and 2,5 weeks of good food, she was ready for spaying.
She was adopted six weeks later, she's living now on the island of Krk with her adopters and new best friend :) |
On November 5th our ''Sivi'' had a dental surgery at RiVet clinic in Rijeka. Vets had to pull out almost all of his teeth. All went well and he is recovering now, getting fat again :)) November 19th, four of our ferals were sterilized at Rijeka vet clinic (Veterinarska stanica Rijeka). At the end of month, 19 cats were sterilized at one location few kilometers far from the Cres town. Many thanks to a cat lover from Cres who initiated this action! Unfortunately, we've lost two more street cats. Beautiful black and white female who lived near Plodine supermarket, spayed two years ago. She was hit by a car and died. Also, white and gray Felix disappeared. Very gentle male, neutered is Autumn 2019, regularly fed at the feeding spot in Cres old town. |

Scheduled surgery appointment for next month at RiVet clinic. |
September 2020
July & August 2020
In July, a grey cat in very bad condition was found near Plodine supermarket in Cres. Therapy didn't help her, she died only a few days after she came to me :(( Two dear guests from Austria borrowed the cat trap from me in order to spay one female cat from Merag village. They did it, travelled to Losinj just for spaying.. Many thanks! Little Zlajo received his first vaccinations and microchip so he was ready for adoption at the end of August. Fortunately, dear Tina from Slovenia decided to adopt our little survivor! |
June 2020
Another very sad month.
Ljubica died, two days before the end of her therapy. With vet so far away, there is little chance we can have good vet care and save cats who need urgent help. Two babies died at the age of five weeks. One by one in only 24 hours. By the symptoms it seems they had panleukopenia. Surprisingly, the smallest baby survived, grey ''Zlajo''. We took him to the vet, first in Cres then we visited RiVet clinic in Rijeka, because of his problems with swollen colon and diarrhea. He got long term antibiotics and additional therapy. |
Nine cats were fixed in June, Seven cats from the village of Dragozetici and two from the Town of Cres. We received food donations from Meta (baby food), from Jan and Maja from Slovenia, from Monika and Stefan from Germany, and from Atlantic Grupa. We are very grateful for every help with food! Monika and Stefan are regular guests in Camp Kovacine, they always feed the cats by their trailer so they sent a beautiful photo of lazy, happy, spayed cats there :) |
May 2020
26th May Today we were in the city of Rijeka with Ljubica, visiting RiVet vet clinic. Ljubica can't walk and can't control poop and urination. An X-ray exam didn't show any fracture. She got corticosteroid therapy for next 15 days (medrol), hopefully it will help her. She was tested FeLV/FIV negative. Many thanks to the vets from RiVet clinic for their care and kindness. Ljubica was very sweet, behaving perfectly at the vet. |
Spay Day, 8th May
Seven cast from Cres have travelled today to Mali Losinj. Six cats were sterilized and one was examined by the vet. All spayed/neutered cats woke up quickly and were returned to their habitat after recovery. Many thanks to the Town of Cres for covering vet bills for feral cat castrations. The one eyed cat who is ill has a chance for recovery, fingers crossed for her. I call her Ljubica. |
April 2020
March 2020
Time of lockdown in Croatia. No vet in Cres for next two months.. Very sad month as we have lost both of our little patients in very short period.. both died from kidney failure. First died Crnko on 8th March. He was 8,5 years old black male, rescued in spring 2012 from ACI marina Cres. He was living in my home, he was a true king of the house. Only ten days later old Zucko died. Deaf and HIV positive, at least he had nice latest months of his life.. |
January and February 2020
December 2019
19th December, spay day
Five feral cats were trapped and transported to Lošinj where they were spayed/neutered at the vet clinic. This month we received another food donation from a cat lover from Zagreb. Unfortunately, our ''Terminator'' disappeared at the end of December. He was 3,5 - 4 years old feral, neutered, very sweet and beautiful. Every evening he was waiting for me to bring the food, every night at the same spot, same time. He won't be forgotten. |
November 2019
20th November, spay day Six more Cres feral cats were trapped and later sterilized in Lošinj vet clinic! 11th November Spay day :) Five feral cats were spayed/neutered in Cres (Autocamp Kovacine) by dr.Devcic, a veterinarian from Losinj. Three females and two males. All cats have been released after recovery. Good luck girls and boys! |
October 2019
26th October
Our dear Crnko (''Blackie'') traveled with catamaran to the city of Rijeka. We visited the vet clinic, Crnko needed the blood test because of his worsening health. Unfortunately, his kidneys are in pretty bad condition. He got treatment and he must eat only medical food from now on (renal). |
September 2019
The first cat spayed in September was beautiful red feral from ACI marina Cres.
We asked cat lovers to help with cat food for colony of 40 cats in one small island village. There are two cat ladies who feed those cats regulary, also they started with TNR last spring. Thanks to our friends, village cats received a lot of food! We've found new dumped babies, some island people still abandon kittens and leave them all around Cres town. Thanks to our friends and volunteers, all kittens except the wild ones have been taken and are safe now, some of them are already adopted. |
July & August 2019
In July and August, four of our kittens were adopted and their mother was spayed.
We also received so important food donations from friends of Cres cats. Big thanks to animal protection society from Kranj, Slovenia, also many thanks to our summer guests and their sweet children who brought cat food for our cats. And heartly thanks to all dear tourists, cat lovers, who help island cats during summer season! |
June 2019
KITTENS are looking for home!
We have one little boy in the house, and another two kittens in the autocamp Kovacine. All babies are healthy and very sweet. Every kitty could be adopted in Croatia or abroad - in that case kitty will be vaccinated and microchipped. More on ''Adoption'' page! If you want to adopt a kitty, please contact us via contact page, thank you! |
June started with releasing of old Zucko.
After seven weeks; after medical treatment, blood tests and finally castration, Zucko is back in his garden, free again. He is fiv positive, deaf, and his kidneys are not well so he should eat only special food (renal). Many thanks to dear Kat who is his sponsor and to good people who are taking care of old boy. Wishing him many more years to come! |
May 2019
The fourth autocamp's cat was found.
On 5th May we have found another camp cat near the Health Center in Cres, she was heavily pregnant. Obviously, cat wasn't spayed before autocamp Kovačine's management dislocated her, together with several other cats :((( On 9th May we trapped this cat and took her back to the autocamp. She was placed in the large box, in a quiet room. Next day she gave birth to four babies! The camp employees promised to take good care of mama and kittens. *UPDATE : the fifth dislocated cat was found in October! :) |
3rd May - Spay/Neuter Day
Twelve feral cats were spayed/neutered in Cres. ❗😻 Five cats were from the town of Cres, three cats from the village of Dragozetici and four cats from the village of Valun. Many thanks to all dear people who helped with trapping and transporting of cats and many thanks to the vets from Mali Losinj who sterilized the cats. Also many thanks to the Förderverein Tierschutzprojekt Kroatien which donated cat carriers for the cats from Dragozetici. In total, 50 island cats were spayed/neutered during the spring 2019. |
April 2019
''Zucko'' (''Yellow Boy'') came to us on 10th April.
He is a stray cat about 10 years old who has been living on the street almost all of his life. He came with bad bite wounds so he had to receive antibiotics therapy first. On 27th April we travelled to the city of Rijeka to visit the vet. The blood test results weren't good, his kidneys are not well and he is FIV positive. He has to eat special food (renal) till the end of his life. Right now he is still recovering, waiting for castration. |
3rd April - Spay/Neuter Day
Six cats, five females and one male were spayed/neutered at the vet clinic in Mali Losinj. Five female cats are the ferals from the town gardens and one is a feral from the autocamp. After the recovery all females are going back to their gardens while the boy (Chap, rescued from the autocamp in Beli last September) stays with us. Chap has got the best nanny in the world, our dear Jeff :) |
March 2019
March 2019 - The Autocamp Cats
Several feral cats from the Camp Kovacine have been relocated, cats have been moved to the industrial area of Cres town. After public outcry the autocamp management decided not to dislocate more cats, to bring back previously dislocated cats and to let them live peacefully at the campsite. Volunteers are looking for relocated cats, by now three cats were found and safely returned to their home in camp Kovacine. Videos -> Second cat is coming home -> First cat is coming home at the campsite |
19th March - Spay Day
We've visited the Losinj vet clinic again, with seven female cats. Six cats were spayed while the seventh was treated because of the wound on her tail. Five spayed cats are from the old town and one is from the autocamp, same as the treated one. All girls were released after recovery. |
